Our School
Located on the East Side of Providence, Nathan Bishop Middle School (NBMS) serves over 650 students in grades 6-8. The school offers ESL and special education programming in an integrated setting. Nathan Bishop was named a Green Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education for its efforts in environmental sustainability and healthy school environments in 2012. Nathan Bishop's building was renovated and modernized while preserving its historical significance. It was the first renovated historic school in Rhode Island to achieve high-performance green school status. NBMS students placed second in the 2011 RI Science Olympiad. A Nathan Bishop student was recognized with the RITELL MLL Student Award in 2025 for his resilience, academic excellence, and multilingualism. Additionally, NBMS Math teacher Jessie Gilbert was named Educator of the Year by Junior Achievement of Rhode Island.

Providence, RI – Today, Mayor Brett Smiley and City Councilor Jo-Ann Ryan joined Providence Public School leaders at Pleasant View Elementary School to celebrate the official ribbon cutting a new playground at the newly renovated, state-of-the-art elementary school.

PROVIDENCE, RI - The Providence Public School District (PPSD) is making strides by transforming the way it builds its educator pipeline by growing talent from within its own walls. PPSD was one of the first school districts in the state to launch a formally recognized Pre-K Special Education and K-12 “Grow Your Own” Teacher Apprenticeship Program that was approved by the Rhode Island State Apprenticeship Council.

Providence, RI – The Providence Public School District (PPSD) welcomed students back for the 2026-27 school year on Tuesday, August 25, marking the first full academic year since the district’s transition back to local control on July 1, 2026. This milestone follows years of measurable progress under state intervention, including rebounding assessment scores, record-high graduation rates, and a massive $1 billion investment in modernizing school facilities.

Providence, RI – They’ve learned the skills. They’ve trained in the gear. Now, Central High School students are experiencing the heat.
On Wednesday, students in the school’s Firefighter/EMT Career and Technical Education (CTE) program put on their full gear and entered a controlled burning building alongside Providence firefighters.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Providence Public School District (PPSD) is proud to announce that Classical High School has been officially named a 2026 Rhode Island Blue Ribbon School by Governor Dan McKee, Commissioner Angélica Infante-Green, and the Rhode Island Department of Education (RIDE).
Recognized in the category of Exemplary High Performance, Classical High School is one of only three schools statewide to receive this premier distinction this year. The award highlights schools that demonstrate exceptionally high literacy and mathematics proficiency alongside rigorous academic standards. The latest 2024-2025 SAT results for Classical High School show 90.9% of students meeting or exceeding expectations in English Language Arts (ELA) and 68.1% in Math.
